Course Description

The fragility of the marital bond is notable in contemporary society, to which most cultures are not immune. Different factors contribute to marriage stresses, often leading to divorce or separation.

As the Bible relates, becoming One-Flesh in marriage is not automatic and doesn’t just happen after the wedding ceremony. Often, people enter marriage with low awareness of what it involves, not knowing that marriage costs much more than a golden wedding ring, cake, or honeymoon. Happiness in marriage has nothing to do with luck and everything to do with work and commitment. The most significant sacrifice required by marriage is the sacrifice of oneself.

The co-mingling of souls and the becoming One Flesh occurs in the spouses’ investment through honesty, dependability, tenderness, affection, transparency, and seeking to please and satisfy each other, even in little things. As a marriage grows and endures, the truth of “Two Becoming One” emerges from the security of knowing each other profoundly, accepting each other, and understanding each other deeply, all in the context of self-gift.
